Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan - Growth Options Consultation (July 2020)

What is this about?

Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough, Nottingham City and Rushcliffe Borough Councils are developing the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan which sets out the policies to help guide future development up to 2038.

The Strategic Plan aims to:

• Have the right number and types of new homes, which are built in the right places and meet the needs of our local population and diverse communities;
• Create vibrant and viable city and town centres, which are sustainable and are places where people want to live and work; and
• Provide the right conditions for economic development which generates new jobs and economic growth, and to enable strong, safe and healthier communities.

The Strategic Plan will also consider other planning issues such as climate change and how the plan can help achieve each council's ambition to become carbon neutral.

Once approved, the Strategic Plan, along with other planning policies, can be used to help decide planning applications.

The Growth Options document asked a series of questions on topics including housing growth, employment growth and economic development, climate change and carbon neutrality, city and town centres, the natural environment, urban design, the historic environment, safe and healthy communities, Green Belt and infrastructure provision.

The councils wanted views on the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan to help shape future planning for the area.

The consultation ran between 6th July and 14th September 2020.

You can still view the Greater Nottingham Strategic Growth Options document online or download the PDF documents.  They can be found at the bottom of this page.

Hard copies of the consultation documents can also be viewed at the following locations:-

• Gedling Borough Council, Civic Centre, Arnold.  By appointment only.  Please email planningpolicy@gedling.gov.uk to make an appointment.
• Arnold Library, Front Street, Arnold and Hucknall Library, South Street, Hucknall subject to the current library restrictions so you may wish to contact the library before visiting.
• Rushcliffe Borough Council, Customer Service Centre, West Bridgford.  A copy of the consultation document may also be viewed at our Customer Contact Centre on a computer screen.  Please ensure you book an appointment slot by calling 0115 981 9911.
• Local libraries within Rushcliffe Borough subject to the current library restrictions so you may wish to contact the library before visiting.

What happens next?

Now the consultation has closed, the comments submitted are being considered by the Councils and a summary of these comments will be made available along with the councils’ response.

Comments received will inform the preparation of the Greater Nottingham Strategic Plan.  A draft Strategic Plan will be published in 2021 and there will be a further opportunity to comment.
